I just returned from Washington DC where I had the good fortune of attending the Home Care Association of Americas 2015 Leadership Conference. I travelled to our nation’s capital with David Paul, the owner of South Florida Home Care. He insisted that we have a presence in Washington and be actively involved with this very important organization. It is an interesting time of change within the home health arena and they couldn't have picked a better city to host us!
We are facing some huge changes within our industry. The Fair Labor Standard Acts companion care exemption, the National Labor Relation Board's recent decision on joint employers and consumer protections to prevent worker misclassification are on the forefront of our minds. Trying to adjust our business practices while still providing the continuity of care our clients deserve is our greatest challenge. Learning how these possible rulings will affect our clients, our caregivers as well as our bottom line is essential in planning for the future of home health in America.
The Home Care Association of America presented two days of seminars given by the best home care professionals in the industry. It allowed for leaders all over the country to come together and offer assistance to each other. We worked as a national team instead of competing against each other. I learned so much in this short time and came home excited to tell my team at South Florida Home Care how we are going to be better and stronger! We have implemented some great things this week and cannot wait for the season ahead of us. Bring on the challenge…South Florida Home Care has the tools to be successful in providing great care!
